Clergy Resources

"The channels let the water flow away, and do not retain a drop. But the reservoir is first filled, and then without emptying itself, pours out its overflow, which is ever renewed. We have many channels in the Church today but very few reservoirs. " - St. Bernard

In over thirty years of full-time ministry together, we have experienced the weakness and the power of being vessels who are channels or reservoirs. We have benefitted from the help, strength, and support of colleagues, leaders, and co-laborers in God's vineyard. And, we have felt isolated, overstretched, and under-resourced for the hard work of ministry. One natural result of this partnership is that we care deeply for our sisters and brothers in ministry, and we want to offer our experience to help them to live in a healthier and more intentional manner.

The Abbey offers a location and unique setting for clergy and clergy spouses to come apart for refreshment, revitalization, and renewal in their ministry life together and individually. Either through personal retreat, peer group meetings, or individual counseling, Tom & Marcia are available to meet.

Marcia and fellow clergy-spouse Gilda Hurst have written a Clergy Spouse Bible Study that they used in the Diocese of Dallas. The feedback from other spouses was it dealt with the important hot button issues that clergy spouses face. And, during the beginning of the pandemic, Tom and Marcia designed a Clergy/Clergy Spouse Wellness Retreat that addresses burnout, boundaries, and marital, emotional, and spiritual health.

Either through personal retreat, peer group meetings, or individual counseling, Tom & Marcia are available to meet, and we are available to speak to clergy and/or spouses on various topics.
